We were in Hana on a family vacation when I came across this group of soldiers in formation marching down the street. They were leaving a funeral of one of their own. It always struck me that the last man was alone. I will not forget this scene.
I did this awhile back and just needed to finish up a few things. It was time.

Wow, you really got the lushness of Maui. And the posture of the marines. Nice.
What a great memory and this is a beautiful pastel to remember the moment by! I'd like to see it in person.
Beautiful painting - very moving.
beautiful moving and a very interesting composition
Very moving, Dori. It speaks volumes about how we mourn alone. No one can really share the ache with us. Nice composition too.
I have always loved looking at this painting in your studio. It is beautiful.
