I was told I need to focus while painting and find a place for the viewer to rest. In hoping to understand this I put a figure in, getting the viewer to feel they could walk into the painting. All and all I liked this walkway in the morning light much better and hope to get back there this week. I also think it is all too centered and still.

The figure absolutely makes the painting. It gives us a focal point and really completes the painting. I like the subtle colors and the way you painted this. Very nice.
I agree, the figure adds that special touch. I think the studies you did really paid off because your values in this are organized very well. You kept the control of your focal point nicely. Very nice!
Very nice Dori...and you know I love the figure in it...good job!
I love how you've chosen to have that red shirt kind of focus the viewer and then allow them to meander in nature afterward.
It's interesting...for me what makes this one more still than the b&w version is that tree on the left and the walkway's posts. In the value study the tree has really active lines, and the posts seem more tilted and less regular.
Love the little signs and the figure.
