A Rose 6x6 pastel

I have been cutting roses from my yard to put in small vases around my house.  They don't last long and I keep saying I need to paint one.   So today I was sitting at my desk and staring at this rose in its open stage, knowing that tomorrow would be to late.  Yes, tomorrow the petals will fall and another opportunity gone.  So with a box of miscellaneous pastels, I dug out a few colors that might get this rose across with justice.  At the same time I completed something and that makes me feel good.

oooo flowers! I love flower paintings lately! I'm impressed that you took out the pastels, very scary for me. This is really lovely, and I know what you mean, that sense of accomplishment/relief when something is completed. Maybe flowers are a good subject because they do light a fire under us.

You know, it's the things that strike you when you're not thinking. OK, that didn't make sense, but what I was getting at was, who would paint the BACK of a flower? But it works! And I love how the strokes resolve into the image. Nice nice nice.
