"A BREAK IN THE STORM"

6x6, oil on gesso panel, $75.00
As a daily painter an important issue is having things I want to paint.  It is not always easy.  A matter of fact is can be down right hard.  I get tired of subjects.  It is a daily search for new subjects and possible series work.  I spend lots of time taking photos along with looking them over and over to see if I see something that i did not see before.
In my file I have taken lots of out the window shots on our drives up to San Jose State getting or delivering my son.  I look at these shots all the time.  I love clouds and fear painting them.  The sky is so beautiful at times and clouds, so formless and constantly moving, difficult to get down in oil.  So here I am finally working on some I love dearly with hopes of doing such magnificence justice.

This painting is great. You did the clouds justice. When not painting from life, I have trouble deciding on what subject to paint too. I go through the same fears, even though the subjects in my photos will be there until I’m satisfied (or give up) with the results.

Your clouds are great - sometimes I stick my thumb in the wet paint and drag the paint into the blue to get that faded effect.

You got them! This piece is so atmospheric - it's really wonderful. The tree cluster and bits of sky poking through have a lot of character.

You sure did justice to these massive clouds, they have so much drama and look like they are moving. Well done, Dori!

This is wonderful. The sky is perfect, and the perspective and interest created by the streaks of paint in rust and green in the foreground is awesome. Do more of these!

Stormy day paintings remain my favorite, and this painting is a reminder why. I love the mix of white and dark clouds and all that moodiness.

I like this. It has such a fresh feel. You shouldn't fear clouds. It seems you already know how to capture them quite well!
