"A SLICE OF VITAMIN C"

Blue and orange are compliments, another set I am exploring in this painting.   Orange and blue can be bold and harsh in advertising, but they really grab you.  It is difficult to dismiss any graphic done with these two colors.  You don't have to like them for them to grab you.  In oil there is a lot more going on with color  mixing and moving around the color wheel to venture into neighboring colors to turn the form and sculpt the painting.  In the process there is a cast of supporting players that push and pull the subject from a graphic statement of bold eye catching color to something with more depth and more to see.

"CASTING A SHADOW"

Went to Trader Joe's yesterday and found  they had orange daisy's.  They just struck me and I had to have them.  I brought them home and place each of them in their own vase.  

I really liked working in the same color and just splashing the green in on the stem and in the shadow.  The green in the shadow photographed much brighter than it is.  Oh my photograph wains at times.

Need A Little Vitamin "C" 6x6 oil

Today I had my second meeting with "Kevin" at Cynthia Grilli's workshop.  I really had fun.  The only thing is I forgot my camera.  So I will catch up with that next week.
In the mean time I had lots of paint on my palette from today.  I have been enjoying these tangellos with hope of getting a little needed vitamin "C".  I think it is just not enough and the cold is coming and the headache is here.  One thing nice about still life is I can sit and be still while I paint.  I am not much for doing nothing.  Painting takes my mind off my nose and head and all the woes of not feeling 100%.

Two of a Kind 6x6 oil

My husband and I took a little trip to Ojai this past weekend with friends. We had a day before everyone else arrived and so I painted while he finished up some office work. These two tangerines were sitting on a table under lamp light. I loved the glow of the deep warm shadow side of the fruit.

I have been once again trying a new palette of color. I am taking a portrait painting class with Cynthia Grilli and am using her recommended palette. I'm using a number of transparent colors. I always seem to enjoy the exploration process of mixing and finding out what works. I have been a alla prima painter for the most part and with Cynthia I will be glazing. I must be patient.

Pumpkin 6x6 original oil

Love this time of year.  Our local produce store has isles of pumpkins, indian corn, squash and gourds.  Since the weather in California shows little change between seasons, it is nice to see autumn somewhere.
