Shelia 14x11 oil

Just got home from a lovely day painting the model.  We got to work out of Judy Schroeder's Gallery in downtown Orange.  Makes for a fun day, as there are lots of places to eat and walk at lunch.
This was a difficult pose in that here crossed elevated legs were difficult to capture and be convincing.  Shelia is a lovely model and artist herself.  She brought many costumes and things for us to select from for our long pose.
This pose was about 2 to 2 1/2 hours.  Working through the form from beginning to end takes on many feelings for me.  Often I like the painting about 3/4 through and should stop.  Today I tried to stay aware of that and still didn't quite finish it, but did not over work it.  I need to work on the concept of a finished painting.  I would like to start visualizing the finished work I want to see.  I am slowing down more and stepping back to take in where I am in that moment and if it is what I visualized.  Now getting what I visualize and what I do to look similar in the end is my next area to work out.

You accomplished a lot of detail in this painting in a very short period of time. When I click for a close up, it makes me realize all that you have accomplished here. The legs are great, I love the foot and her dress is wonderful. Nice job!

That is a difficult pose! What you're thinking about is something I was just asking Gregg about...how to 'finish' it without overworking it (I find the same thing often that I like it better part way through). He talked about how when you get to that place, think back to What was my original concept? (light, color, etc.), and then push just that area and leave the rest alone.

Wow, this is a challenging pose to hold for such a long period of time. I love your rendering of her legs and feet. Feet are always a challenging but intriguing to draw and paint for me. [ I know I'm weird] Hugs!

Well done as aways, Dori...
I especially like the mood of the painting. So often when we paint in a studio class, we end up with a stiff dull looking pose... This is very graceful....
