Study for "The City" Series

I haven't painted a city scene since I was in my teens. It consisted of a silhouette of the city buildings, windows, a moon and highlights on the river reflecting the buildings. I think I used 3 colors. So this is different. I want to be in the city. I am fascinated with movement. That's what I love about studying race horses too. A city is bustling with activity and so then must my mark making be too. In this study I have over worked parts. I have wiped out sections with turp to rethink it. I like to be confident with my stroke, but first I need to spend the time to find my way. There is the need to be accurate with the technical suggestion of perspective. I want light lording over the shadowy streets. Yet in those shadows is all the fun. So hopefully there will be more to come.
